How long do spices and herbs last?

All of Adonis Spices products include a Best By date on the label. When stored in ideal conditions spices can live for several years, however please find below our recommendation list of best before periods categorize by product group.

What’s the ideal conditions to store spices?

The ideal conditions to store spices and extend their life while preserving the flavor and fragrant is to keep them in airtight containers stored in dry, dark and cool places with limited exposure to sunlight, moisture, and heat.

Why are my spices clumping?

Spices may clump naturally when excessive moisture being introduced into your spice container. Over time, the spices can become clumped together into a hardened clump which can be broken apart and used.

Can I store spices in a refrigerator or freezer?

We do not recommend storing spices in the freezer. Freezing does not extend the shelf life of spices and humidity can cause the flavor of various spices to alter which can accelerate loss of flavor and aroma and even lead to grow mold or bacteria.

Why are some of the bottles not completely full?

Adonis Spices are sold by weight, not volume. We use bottles that will hold the quantity (like 1 pound) that are not specific to the weight of each product. Spices also pack down, so as they pack down, the bottle will look less full.

Are Adonis Spices irradiated?

No. None of our products or any of the ingredients are irradiated.

What is the difference between a spice and an herb?

Spices and herbs are aromatic natural products that are used to flavor food. Spices are the dried seeds, buds, fruit or flower parts, bark, or roots of plants, usually of tropical origin. Herbs are the leaves and sometimes the flowers of plants, usually grown in a climate similar to the Mediterranean.

How do I measure fresh vs. dried spices and herbs in a recipe?

You can substitute fresh components as follows:

  • One tablespoon of fresh herbs = One teaspoon of Adonis dried herbs.
  • 1 Cup fresh onion = ½ cup dried Adonis Onion Powder.
  • 1 Clove of garlic = 1/8 teaspoon of Adonis Garlic Powder.
